Thomas Heywood’s Opening Solo Concert on the world-famous Melbourne Town Hall Grand Organ - the largest musical instrument in the southern hemisphere - remains an historic musical event of international significance.
This spectacular presentation includes the complete concert program (with three encores) performed live to a capacity audience of over 2,000 people - including Heywood’s record-breaking world-premiere performance of his transcription of Beethoven’s complete Fifth Symphony for Concert Organ solo.
This amazing pipe organ is four storeys high with a greater floor space than five average homes. It even has a bathroom and toilet within the organ chamber!
Although the entire concert program is included, the presentation also features the incredible variety of organ pipes behind the organ case – some of the 10,000 organ pipes are over three storeys high.
